Europe 2013 - Day 1 & 2: Rome, Italy

Monday, May 27, 2013

Day 1 and 2 are in the books! The travel day was exhausting, as usual. We flew from Omaha to Chicago and then Chicago to Rome. Zeb managed to sleep about 3 hours and I unfortunately only slept for 45 minutes (9 hour flight). We flew on an Italian airline, Alitalia.

Leaving OMA - Brother Zak dropped us off! Thank you!
Getting ready to land in Rome (FCO).

Day 1: Rome was pretty rough for us today; we were so tired from the long flight.  We muscled through the exhaustion and we managed to walk about 12 miles in just over 7 hours. We went all over the ancient Roman city seeing the Trevi Fountain, Pantheon, Vatican City, Coliseum, Saint Angelo, and many more. Below are the photo highlights from those places.

Tomb of the Unknown Soldier (Monumento a Vittorio Emanuele II)
Colosseo (view from the top of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier)

To recap, it was an extremely busy day with many sights and activities. Tomorrow we spend a large majority of the day at the Vatican City. First we are scheduled to take the Necropolis tour underneath the Vatican City, then in the afternoon, we are scheduled for a large tour of all the museums within the Vatican City, including St. Peter's Basilica.

That’s it for the first couple days! We are exhausted and ready for bed.

Ciao!
