Down Under 2014 - Day 7 - Wellington

Saturday, June 7, 2014

Today was a slower paced day compared to some of our previous days, but it was definitely welcomed. We enjoyed a nice jog through the Wellington Botanical Gardens to start our day. Today, we planned to spend the day at Zealandia: Eco Sanctuary. This sanctuary is a 550-acre sanctuary home to native plants and animals of New Zealand. This sanctuary also told the story of how New Zealand came about and the history behind the city of Wellington.

Our B&B in Wellington welcomed us with the US flag!

After our time at Zealandia we headed to the Interislander Ferry to travel from Wellington (North Island) to Picton (South Island). It was a lovely 3.5-hour journey on the mini cruise ship across the Cook Strait. During our journey we enjoyed watching the New Zealand Rugby National Team (nicknamed the All Blacks) take on England with the locals. The Kiwis are very passionate about their All Blacks! In the end, the All Blacks scored in the last 2 minutes to pull out the victory. The New Zealanders can all sleep well tonight!
