Down Under 2014 - Day 9 - Melbourne, Australia

Monday, June 9, 2014

Today we flew into Melbourne from Christchurch. We arrived at 7:30am and had the morning to explore the city before going to the Australian Rules Football game at 3:30.

We enjoyed walking around the city and doing some shopping at our European brand stores that we do not have in America. We then stumbled upon Eureka 88, which is the highest observation deck in the Southern Hemisphere. We enjoyed going up to the top of the building and all the spectacular views.

Zeb's favorite European brand!
Up to the top we go!

Apparently the sushi wasn't up to her liking.

After grabbing lunch in the city centre it was off to the Australian Rules Football game. This game was a cross-town rivalry game and drew a crowd of 70,000 people. We learned immediately that the Aussie’s love their football and are very passionate supporters of their squads. It took us a little bit to understand the rules of the game, but thankfully there were nice people around us who taught us the ins and outs of the sport. I think they also found it entertaining because we were absolutely clueless but yet eager to learn.

Oddly shaped field.
Didn't know who to root for...we were neutral :)
Game time!
We ended the day with a delicious Italian dinner and a nice walk through the city. Overall, we had a fantastic day in Melbourne and had a wonderful cultural experience.

Goodnight from Melbourne!
